Oil Crops Linked to Increased Species Extinction

A recent study from ETH Zürich indicates that oil crops, including oil palm, coconut, and soybean, are responsible for approximately 1.5 percent of global biodiversity loss. This figure is higher than previously estimated and is primarily driven by the rising consumption and cultivation of these crops. The findings highlight the environmental impact of agricultural practices associated with these commodities.
