Location

Every summer solstice, Geneva stops being a city and becomes an open-air stage. For its 35th edition, running from Friday 19 to Sunday 21 June 2026, the Fête de la Musique will fill the streets, parks, courtyards, and squares with over 600 free concerts.

There is no single headline act. The programme is built entirely from the region's own musicians, spanning classical, jazz, hip-hop, electro, and salsa. The joy is in following the sound and stumbling onto something you never intended to see. But with stages spread across both banks of the lake, a little orientation helps.

The 2026 Stage Guide

Geneva has added two brand-new locations this year (La Jonction and Place des Volontaires), expanding the festival's footprint further into the city's alternative scenes. Here is how the key locations break down:

Location

  • The VibeBest ForVieille-Ville (Old Town) Historic, acoustic, intimateWandering at golden hour

  • Parc des Bastions Spacious, open-air, grassyMain-stage energy and people-watching

  • Place de Neuve Grand, prominent, centralMeeting up and catching major acts

  • Parc La Grange (SEF) Majestic, relaxed, greenEscaping the dense crowds

  • Place des Volontaires Edgy, loud, late-nightElectronic and alternative sets

  • La Jonction Fresh, contemporary, off-pathDiscovering new local talent

  • Haute École de Musique Refined, structured, indoorClassical and student showcases

Local's tip: Start in the Vieille-Ville. The sound carries beautifully between the old stone walls. It's all slightly uphill, so use it as your starting point before drifting effortlessly downhill as the evening builds.

A Suggested Evening Route

The best strategy is to have a loose plan and immediately abandon it, but if you want a reliable flow:

  1. Late afternoon: Start in the Vieille-Ville for the atmosphere and early acoustic sets.

  2. Early evening: Walk down to Place de Neuve and Parc des Bastions for the larger stages and to grab something to eat.

  3. Night: Choose your ending. Head to Place des Volontaires for electro and high energy, or cross the lake to Parc La Grange for a mellow night under the trees.

Practical Notes for 2026

  • Dates: Friday 19 June (from 19:00) to Sunday 21 June (until 22:00).

  • Weather: Forecasts point to a hot weekend (30–34°C). Bring water, sun protection, and expect T-shirt weather late into the night.

  • Daily Budget: The concerts are completely free, but you should budget around CHF 30–50 per day for drinks and food-truck hopping. The festival strictly requires all food stands to offer at least one vegetarian dish, so you will easily find excellent meat-free options like fresh falafel, local cheese dishes, and loaded fries.

  • Getting around: Everything is walkable or a very short tram ride apart. Geneva's public transport (TPG) is your best friend for crossing between banks.

  • Sustainability: All bars and food stands use reusable cups and plates without a deposit system, making it easy to drop your dishes at any return point when you move to the next stage.
